Chinese Language Proficiency Test Level 3 Vocabulary
I just added the entire Chinese Language Proficiency Test Level 3 (intermediate) vocabulary to the chinesenotes.com Chinese-English Dictionary page. If you are an intermediate student you can now find all the intermediate vocabulary there. In comparison to other web based dictionaries there is more information, including examples, grammar, and other information.

Google Gadget
On the Language Tools page I also added a Chinese-English Dictionary Google Gadget. On the page there is a button that you can use to add this gadget to your personalized Google home page.

Today I added some new search tools using bookmarklets. These tools can search the chinesenotes.com Chinese-English dictionary. The dictionary now has over 11,000 terms, including grammar and example sentences.

Everyone routinely uses Google or other search engines to search the Internet. You can also use Google to search for pages within particular web sites, although you may have never taken to time to learn how to use this capability. So, for the convenience of users I have created two bookmarklets to enable search of the Xinhua Net and chinesenotes.com web sites.

扩大词汇 Expanding My Vocabulary

你可能听说过汉语水平考试（ HSK ）但是我才在几个月之前刚发现汉语水平考试具体的情况。我觉得汉语水平考试怎么分开基础，初等，中等和高等四级词汇水平是一个好主意。在学习中文的过程中词汇当然是很难的障碍，所以见到生词的时候我想知道该生词是几级。如果生词是基础或者初级我更注意它的声调，语法和用途。我刚加上了所有基础词汇（ HSK 1 ）进探险中文词语的网页包括语法，例子和有关的名量词。希望该网页能帮主其他人。

You are probably familiar with the Chinese Proficiency Exam (HSK ). However, I only found out exactly what it was several months ago. I think that the way HSK divides out vocabulary for fundamental, beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels is a good idea. In the process of studying Chinese vocabulary is a big obstacle, so when I come across new words I like to know what level they are. If the new words are fundamental or beginning I want to pay special attention to their tones, grammar, and use. I have just finished adding all the words from HSK fundamentals (HSK 1) into the web page Chinese Word Explorer, including grammar, examples, and related measure words. I hope that other people get some value from this page.

In order to become more proficient at looking up Chinese characters myself, I create a list of Kangxi and simplified radicals. The page includes all Kangxi and simplified radicals, their English definitions, and example characters that use the radicals.

红螺寺 Hongluo Temple

In July I went to Beijing to visit family. One day we went to Hongluo Temple for a day out. Hongluo Temple is located in the Huairou District of Beijing, which is on the north side of Beijing. The temple is very interesting being situated at the foot of Hongluo Mountain in a very scenic area. The temple was built by the senior monk Fo Tucheng in the fourth year of the reign of Emperor Xian Kang in the Eastern Jin period (338 AD). After coming back to the US I created a web page on it:

关于体育的中文 Sports Chinese

北京奥运会是学习关于体育的中文一个很好的机会。奥运会有很多我不熟悉特出体育项目比如赛场自行车，体操，皮划艇等。确实我只是每四年关注这些体育。为了学广泛体育项目的中文词汇我写了一个中英双言奥运体育表。听中文奥运广播的时候这些词汇是很大的帮助。为了学习怎么用这些词汇我也丛新华网翻译了一篇关于举重的文章：侗族小伙陆永:教练眼中的"特殊"孩子。看完这篇文章读者也可以了解中国运动员的生活。

The Beijing Olympics is a great opportunity to study Chinese language as used for sports. The Olympic has many specialized sports that I am not familiar with, such as velodrome cycling, gymnastics, rowing, etc. Actually, I only pay attention to these kinds of sports every four years. To study a Chinese vocabulary relating to a broad range of sports I created the Chinese-English table List of Olympic Sports. I found this vocabulary a great help in listening to Chinese Olympic broadcasts. To study how these words are used I translated an article related to weightlifting from Xinhua Net: In the coach's eyes the young Dong boy Lu Yong is a gifted child. I hope that readers can get a sense of what Chinese athletes lives are like by reading this article.

唐诗 Tang Poetry

我最近在北京光新华书店的时候找到了一本《唐诗选》。带回家了书以后我录了我老婆念了其中几首诗。根据以前的格式我把每个字连接到英文定义。网页是在这：

我很喜欢唐诗人的大自然注目。好像现代人没有古人那么重视和享受大自然的美丽。古人早就了解大自然风景和谐美丽。有趣的也是李白用动物代表政治的事，比如用无涯代表吴王国。他的诗《乌栖曲》并没有跟乌鸦有关系而且是指出一个吴国王的错误根当时唐皇帝的危险。

I was recently at the Xinhua Bookstore in Beijing where I was browsing around and found the book "Anthology of Tang Poetry." I brought it home and made a recording of my wife reading a few of the poems contained within the book. As per my previous style I linked every character in the poems to English definitions. I really like the focus on nature of the Tang poets. It seems as though modern people do not have the same appreciation for the beauty of nature that the ancients did. The ancient people understood the harmony and beauty of natural scenery a long time ago. Also interesting is Li Bai's use of animals to represent political affairs, for example, his use of crows (乌 wu) to represent the Wu (吴) Kingdom. In fact, the poem "A Tune of Crows Roosting Before the Eve" has nothing to do with crows a connection between a mistake that a Wu king made and danger to the contemporaneous Tang emperor.

I think that the article A Dedication of “Peace, Friendship, and Progress” was especially interesting. It has a very different perspective than that of the Western media. However, while making the recording my family in Beijing was so impressed with it that they applauded.

I finally tidies up the chinesenotes.com web site. Before it had become quite chaotic and, at times, I could not find content myself. Now I have divided content into sections for home, tools, articles, classics, and software.

我好久没有写中文笔记伯克。我最近几个月一直在探险中文单词词汇然后今天上传了一个写拼音工具。在用这个工具你可以汉语拼音格式象 ni3hao3 它变成 nǐhǎo。

It has been a long time since I have updated my Chinese Notes blog. However, over the past several months I have been adding vocabulary to Chinese Word Explorer and have just added a Format Pinyin tool. Using the tool you can write pinyin text like ni3hao3 and the tool will change it into nǐhǎo.
